The 222 Fisherman delivers everything and more, raising the bar in versatile and comfortable fishing with standard features such as  multiple rod holders, large baitwells and live wells, tackle storage with boxes, and a removable cooler and also a trailer as standard.

Coaming pads to port and starboard, as well as optional cushions and removable backrests convert the twin storage ­compartments at the bow into comfortable lounges. There’s a removable bridge panel with matching cushion the is a filler cushion  turning the entire bow into a ­spacious sun pad. Remove that bridge, and an available pedestal table converts the front of the boat into an perfect lunch area providing  360-­degree views of the water.

The bow storage compartments offer plenty of space to stow safety gear, tackle and much more. Forward is an anchor bow roller with a locker next to it for storage. The center console’s forward seat lifts to provide a step-down head compartment complete with storage netting on the sides. 

Wellcraft’s focus on quality is apparent even before you step aboard, with its generous use of stainless steel in the rub rails, the safety railings, the cup holders and cleats. Also getting the stainless steel treatment is the four-step retractable boarding ladder located on the port side of the swim platform. The ladder sits in the water at an angle, rather than vertically in the traditional style, for much easier use.

The swim platform is a full walk through style that’s finished in a zero-maintenance non-skid pattern, allowing a very easy passage in front of the outboard engine. Gunnel cutaways and a transom pass-through on the starboard side make for easy boarding from the dock.

The front of the console of the Wellcraft 222 Fisherman there is a bathroom compartment, which is quite an uncommon feature to find in a boat of this size. The front face of the console tilts up on gas assisted rams to provide easy access.

The dash and helm boast a futuristic feel and enough real estate to house a compass on top, 14 lighted toggle switches with breakers, a pair of large displays, and a digital multifunction gauge, plus VHF radio, stereo and more. There’s also a pair of cup holders and a grab ­handle for a companion at the helm, with a charging station for electronics (with USB and 12-volt accessory plugs) just below. A built-in footrest with anti-skid pad enhances the ergonomic design.
